The sludge thickening process is applied in order to reduce the capacity of the sludge dewatering systems that follow the system. The water content in the sludge is reduced to a consistency where the sludge remains fluid and pumpable. Mechanical belt thickeners are used instead of conventional gravitational thickening tanks. It can be integrated into belt press units according to business needs.
